The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) categrorical genetics program has a two-year residency position open beginning July 2026.
This program is ideal for people who want to develop strong clinical diagnostic and exam skills and gain exposure to cutting-edge technology (genome sequencing, genetic therapies). We see a high patient volume as a quaternary medical center and the catchment site for the state of Alabama, and we are a NORD Center for Excellence and part of the Undiagnosed Disease Program network.
We currently have 9 residents in a robust variety of training pathways: categoical genetics, Peds/Genetics, IM/Genetics, MFM/Genetics, and medical biochemical fellowship. All labs are on-site, and they offer fellowship training for clinical biochemical genetics and laboratory genetics/genomics. A T32 genetics pathway is also available. So there are many other trainees around for peer interactions!
Interested candidates need to have completed at least 1 year of an ACGME-accredited residency program. We do support J1 visas.
