Pediatric Clinical Geneticist

 The Department of Pediatrics and the Section of Clinical Genetics at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System seeks a full-time Clinical Geneticist. This position is non-tenure track and open rank. This faculty member will report to and work closely with the Section Chief of Clinical Genetics Services to further the mission and vision of the Department of Pediatrics. CHoR at VCU has a commitment to provide quality patient care and service excellence. Children’s Hospital of Richmond of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has devoted to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and clinical, translational, and basic research. The Section of Clinical Genetics offers inpatient and outpatient consultations and genetic counseling services for genetic conditions across the lifespan.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Teaching: Will contribute to the clinical supervision and education of residents, medical students, genetic counseling graduate students, and ancillary staff. Didactic teaching in MS Genetic Counseling Program and VCU School of Medicine.
  2. Research: Will engage in scholarship through presentations at national meetings, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, and active participation in appropriate professional organizations.
  3. Service: Will participate in regional and national conferences with clinical colleagues. Participation in departmental, institutional, and national committees is encouraged, when appropriate.
  4. Clinical: Active participation as a clinician in various clinics and other settings, including telemedicine, and sharing call and consultative responsibilities with other Clinical Genetics physicians. VCU Clinical Genetics sees patients across the lifespan, from preconception to end of life.  Candidates can expect to see both pediatric and adult patients. Majority of clinical appointment will be conducted on our downtown Richmond campus in both our adult outpatient pavilion and our pediatric outpatient pavilion.

VCU Medical Center is the region’s safety net hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in the region that is certified in burn, adult, and pediatric trauma care, and includes a 1,058 bed teaching hospital. The Medical Campus is in downtown Richmond, VA and encompasses a 51.5-acre campus that includes the Schools of Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Currently the medical campus has 515,000 ft2 of research labs, offices, classrooms, conference space, and is growing rapidly in new construction and renovation of current clinical and office spaces.
